Shifted world of refugees wandering in search of peace

By Elmira Tariverdiyeva

Refugees are people who left the country in which they were residing due to extraordinary circumstances. Such a definition is given in most dictionaries. Today, refugees have become a silent reproach to those who created the "exceptional circumstances" in their homeland and condoned the preservation of instability in the native lands of the people now besieging different parts of the world in search of peace.

Europe is suffocating under the pressure of people trying to save their lives and the lives of their children from the chaos in the Middle East. The US and the EU mainly triggered this chaos attempting the construction of so-called "Western-style democracy" which led to civil wars and instability in the regional countries.

Europe’s hope to build a multicultural society has long been smashed against harsh reality - those coming from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia rarely integrate into European society to such extent that they do not create numerous problems for native Europeans.

European leaders, talking of tolerance in their countries, didn’t take into account the mentality of the new comers, who don’t want to be Europeans and organize vast ghettos in Europe’s capitals and large cities, where they speak their own language, wear traditional clothes and don’t hurry to share common European values.

And as a result, Europeans themselves have started feeling uncomfortable and inconvenienced getting on with people of a different culture and different views on coexistence with neighbors.

However, EU countries couldn’t say no to Washington, the country that hasn’t suffer from instability in the Middle East and turned the region upside down.

Nor does Europe think about the consequences of its policies towards the region, its activities, and alas, it does everything that shouldn’t be done - escalating the situation to the point that living there becomes unbearable.

Moreover, it is impossible not to mention the thoughtless activities of world powers in the painful situation in Azerbaijan where over a million refugees haven’t been able to return to their homes for over 20 years, since the global institutions can not achieve the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories.

The fact that the world powers, some of which are direct mediators in the conflict, limit themselves to sluggish attempts to appeal to the conscience of the Armenians never found in the course of history and the unwillingness of the mediators to take actions speaks about their connivance of illegal occupation and therefore, the responsibility for the fates of more than a million refugees.

Alas, our world has now become the world of refugees fleeing from war and devastation in search of peace. It seems that peace will soon be almost nowhere to be found.
