Armenian attempts fail, Turkey scores free speech victory in Europe

Member states of the Council of Europe will not be allowed to prosecute for the denial of the so-called "Armenian genocide" within their jurisdictions.

European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) judges ruled by a ten to seven votes that Dogu Perincek, the chairman of Turkey's Patriotic Party, should never have been convicted of racial discrimination for his statement, "The Armenian genocide is a great international lie."

This decision by the ECHR indeed opened an important new chapter in modern history, which political experts valued as a big step forward. A story, which began in 2007, came to a logical and fair conclusion.

According to this decision, the denial of the so-called "Armenian genocide" fits into the framework of free speech and cannot be regulated.

"It is a massive victory for Turkey, dedicated to the Turkish army who have been fighting for Turkey's unity," Perincek said.

The news sent shock waves throughout the Armenian Diasporas. Armenians made a great effort to persuade the ECHR to come to another solution, because they believed that the case was a question of whether the myth of "genocide" was legitimate.

The Armenian side attempted to use every mechanism at their disposal to achieve victory, but even a PR stunt like hiring famed attorney Amal Clooney proved fruitless in the end.

The European Court’s decision is particularly important because it showed the triumph of the Convention on Human Rights and the rule of law over political speculation and lies, the Chairman of the Public Chamber of Moldova Aurelia Grigoriu believes.

All in all, Armenia once again embarrassed itself by purporting false accusations in an attempt to influence the international community.

Armenia and the Armenian lobby claim that Turkey’s predecessor, the Ottoman Empire, committed the so-called “genocide” against Armenians living in Anatolia in 1915.

While strengthening the propaganda of “genocide” throughout the world, Armenians achieved its recognition in the parliaments of some countries.

Turkey, on the other hand, invites historians to come to the table to debate the issue rather passing groundless resolutions and decision.
