Opposing forces in Armenia united around common purpose

Armenians’ protests against the current government and its unwise decisions have grown sharply and it seems as if the opposing forces are uniting to confront a government they are not satisfied with.

Armen Grigorian, a member of the civil initiative "Do not waste!" told discussed plans to join the “No to robbery!” public initiative that will take place on September 1 in Lovers’ park in Yerevan.

The "No robbery!" initiative also opposes the constitutional changes that are now are being discussed in the upper circles.

Various discussions on the electricity tariffs price hike and constitutional amendments are now taking place among different public initiatives, however, time shows that the authorities are not interested in public opinion.

That is why the public initiatives that have sought to stand up against the dishonest government are now joining forces.

"We discussed the question of our future cooperation, and also the constitutional changes. They are also against these changes, and it makes us allies. All the questions raised by civic initiatives including constitutional changes are related to each other, and in some place they intersect, that is why we decided to collaborate.

If we act alone, the impact of our protest will not be very strong, but if all get united, form a common agenda, we will find a solution," said Grigoryan.

"The entire social issues rose by the protesters will have a positive impact in the fight against the constitutional amendments. Society’s problems will be worse after the constitutional changes, and for this reason we need to start a fight and not allow this to happen."

Protests in Armenia are a usual thing but they gained more traction after the electricity tariffs price hike, when the Armenians were protesting day by day but gained no positive results. They, however, do not seem as if they are willing to surrender and will continue to protest against Sargsyan’s regime trying to defend their rights.

The numerous problems of the South Caucasian country are only increasing. This year, the country faced the problem of the oncoming economic crisis among other serious problems such as unemployment, political instability, poverty, migration, corruption, and the conflict with Azerbaijan due to Armenia’s illegal occupation of its lands. The government does nothing to prevent the situation from getting worse and the only thing happening in the country is price increases in the background of mass poverty.
