An Azerbaijani teenager, who was captivated by the Armenians on the Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line, was handed over to the Azerbaijani government on September 11.

15-year-old Javid Mammadov was taken hostage by Armenian soldiers near the village of Chayli in Azerbaijan's Tartar region on September 5.

He was transferred to the Azerbaijani side in an operation carried out under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The handover took place on the contact line near the village of Bash Garvand in the Aghdam region of Azerbaijan.

The relatives of the teenager earlier told local media that Javid left home in the morning to go fishing and swimming in the river in Chayli village. After a short time, Armenian media reported that the armed forces have detained an Azerbaijani teenager.

The village residents said people frequently visit the village for fishing and swimming in the river, however this area is dangerous for strangers, as they often turn into a target for Armenian armed forces.

Some months ago, the Armenian forces killed a resident of the Tartar region while he was fishing.

Fortunately Javid was able to escape the sad fate of about 60 children, who are still in the Armenian captivity. Azerbaijani State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing People said in a report last month that the number of Azerbaijani children who have go missing since the beginning of Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict has reached to 59.

Armenian forces often target Azerbaijani children. On March 8, in 2011, nine-year-old Fariz Badalov was deadly shot in the head by an Armenian sniper while playing in the courtyard in Aghdam region. The international organizations condemned this brutal action of Armenian invaders.

In July of the same year, the 13-year-old Azerbaijani girl Aygun Shahmaliyeva fell victim to the Armenia`s inhumane and immoral policy in the Alibayli village of Azerbaijan`s Tovuz region, which borders Armenia. Aygun tragically died as a result of the explosion of a toy with an explosive device, which the Armenian side had deliberately dropped into the river flowing to the village.

Earlier, in 1994 two children were killed as a result of the explosion of some toys that they found from Tovuz River.

Armenian authorities haven't released yet the two Azerbaijani citizens detained by Armenian armed forces in the occupied Kalbajar region. Three Azerbaijani civilians (Russian citizen Dilgam Asgarov, Azerbaijani citizens Shahbaz Guliyev and Hasan Hasanov) were taken hostage by Armenian forces in early July while they were visiting the graves of their late relatives. ICRC Baku office earlier reported that Hasan Hasanov was buried in Nagorno-Karabakh after being killed by Armenian forces.

The precarious cease-fire between Azerbaijan and Armenia was reached after a lengthy war that displaced over a million Azerbaijanis and has been in place between the two South Caucasus countries since 1994. Since the hostilities, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
