Criminal impunity on rise in Armenia

Criminal impunity in Armenia has reached its pick as officials accused and imprisoned over death crimes are released easily.

Former Governor of Syunik region of Armenia was reappointed to his position on September 4, 2014 at the order of Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.

Suren Khachatryan quitted on July 11, 2013 following the bloody crime in his country house, Goris village, allegedly committed by his son, Tigran.

Junior Khachatryan shot dead a businessman and his brother in military service at their villa on June 2, 2013.

Tigran and his private bodyguard were immediately arrested by police after the fatal incident, but were released after a short while.

Khachatryan's return to his previous position triggered outrage against the government in Armenia. The issue recalled the memories of impunity in the country, where criminal atmosphere reigns.

It is not the first time that the government officials are regularly engaged in criminal activities.

Former Premier Tigran Sargsyan resigned unexpectedly after his name was reportedly linked to offshore financial operations in Cyprus. Later on Sargsyan was appointed as Armenian Ambassador to the U.S. through traditional immunity of the authorities.

People now put all the blame on President Serzh Sargsyan for gathering maleficent people around him.

Following Khachatryan's re-appointment, a member of the Armenian Diaspora based in the U.S. California St. wrote on his Facebook page: "One of Armenian government's biggest criminal bully thugs, Suren Khachatryan, was forced to resign last year because of a murder at his home. But he is now back! Criminal thugs heading the government have established a terrorizing "gang" aimed at scaring people into submission!"

Armenia is witnessing crisis of state power and is unable to ensure even elementary human rights. Serzh Sargsyan's failure to protect stability escalates tension in the country and is a real threat to civil intolerance.
