Armenian PM still in search of "magic wand"

By Victoria Moiseyeva

The Armenian prime minister could surprise the public by his recent statement, grounding his failure to survive the country's poor economy with absence of a "magic wand".

This very strange statement made after his 100-day in the position of the head of government also disappointed all in this post-Soviet country, where every third of the population lives in poverty.

Levon Zurabyan, the head of the parliamentary faction of the Armenian National Congress, described Hovik Abrahamyan's words as "surrender" and "recognition of the failure."

While attending the youth meeting of Baze, Abrahamyan said: "This is the financial loss to the people. It takes time to overcome this difficulty, and we will slowly eliminate all the problems. I'm convinced."

The delay in "fighting with the shadow economy" quite clearly mirrors PM's failure.

He asked for much more time to improve the tough economic situation, although he promised to solve the economical problems until July, 1.

"Abrahamyan tries to mitigate his failure and this is a self-defense, but nobody will believe these tales in Armenia hence," Zurabyan said.

Within 100 days of his tenure, Abrahamyan, mostly known as oligarch with large business, failed to meet the demand of people, but could gain sympathy of his relatives and friends by granting them high-ranking positions. Among them are also members of his criminal-oligarchic team, who were once dismissed on the suspicion of corruption.

Duty is before friendship and it is better not to mix business with pleasure. Abrahamyan has over-fulfilled his plans in terms of relatives and friends, but there is no any move with regards to eliminating poverty, misery, demoralization, disappointment, and mass emigration, unfortunately.
