Turkish PM: Killing of Azerbaijani toddler by Armenian militaries is crime against humanity

The killing of two-year-old Zahra and her grandmother is a crime against humanity, said Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.

Yildirim made the remark at a meeting with Azerbaijan`s ambassador Faig Bagirov, who is completing his diplomatic mission in Turkey.

The two-year old Azerbaijani toddler was killed together with her grandmother Sahiba Guliyeva by the Armenian armed forces on July 4 during the shelling of the Alkhanli village of Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli region. Salminaz Guliyeva, 52, who got wounded, was taken to a hospital and was operated on.

The Turkish PM added that Turkey always stands by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, especially concerning the return of the refugees and displaced persons to their homelands.

Yildirim sharply condemned Armenia`s provocations at Azerbaijan`s state border.

Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

For more than two decades the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict fails to be resolved due to Armenia’s unconstructive position and unwillingness to engage in negotiations with Azerbaijan.

Binali Yildirim also hailed the seven-year activity of the Azerbaijani ambassador and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Azertac reported.

They exchanged views on economic cooperation between the two countries, including Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, TANAP and other international projects and multifaceted cooperation in the non-oil sector.
