Artillery shell found in Tartar region

Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has discovered an artillery shell in the village of Askipara in Tartar region of the country.
ANAMA sappers took the discovered shell to the destruction center for disposal. They also examined an area of 500 square meters around the detected projectile, but did not find any other dangerous items, the Agency reported on September 18.
ANAMA was established in 1998 for planning and coordination, management and monitoring of mine action related activities all over the country.
The problem of unexploded ordnance in Azerbaijan can be divided into the areas that are still under the occupation of Armenian forces and other areas of the country. Most of the unexploded ordinances are the result of Armenian aggression.
Since the creation of ANAMA, its staff has cleared more than 40,000 hectares of Azerbaijan’s territory, discovering and defusing over 760,000 mines and unexploded ordnance.
Azerbaijan and Armenia for over two decades have been locked in conflict, which emerged over Armenian territorial claims to Azerbaijan. Since the 1990s war, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions.
The UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions on Armenian withdrawal from the occupied lands of Azerbaijan, but they have not been enforced to this day. Peace talks mediated by Russia, France and the U.S. within the OSCE Minsk Group have also produced no results so far.
