Armenia continues to carry out armed provocations aiming to escalate the situation in the frontline, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported on April 28.

The ministry reported that on Thursday evening, the air defense units of Armenia launched a guided rocket from the “Osa” surface-to-air missile system in Khojavend-Fizuli direction of the front.

“Without hitting any targets, the rocket fell onto an empty section in the territory controlled by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces,” the ministry noted.

During the inspection of the territory, there was revealed the cap and other remains of the 9M33 rocket.

The preliminary investigation concluded that the rockets that the Armenian armed forces have in use are outdated and unfit for use.

Armenia broke out a lengthy war against Azerbaijan by laying territorial claims on its South Caucasus neighbor. Since a war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over 1 million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts.
